An introduction to design appraisal – The Qualityreviewer Masterclass A one-day masterclass introducing Qualityreviewer, a new 10-step method of appraising design quality in development proposals. The method, developed by Urban Design Skills for the Homes and Communities Agency, includes an appraisal of design qualities using a toolkit of simple diagrams.
An introduction to the planning system This course is intended to provide administrators and support staff with an understanding of the planning system to enable them to appreciate the wider context within which they are working.
Current issues in planning conference This final round-up conference brings together the best six papers from across the thirty events, as indicated by questionnaire responses, and should provide a lively wide-reaching forum for discussion
Design in the planning process conference This one-day conference will help you to gain an understanding of the key areas of policy related to ensuring quality of design through the planning process and how sustainability is achieved as part of that process.
Development Management Conference Now in its 9th year, this conference will provide a review of recent and proposed changes to legislation, policy and procedures affecting practice. It will also explore the ways in which public and private sector planning organisations are responding to these changes and to the major changes in the economic climate.
Guide to planning issues in 2011 This conference will look at future changes to the planning system. Key speakers, including CLG representatives, will give their views on new legislation and the impact it will have on both private and public sector planners.
Housing Design Conference This annual conference will focus on housing design and will consider practical experiences of planning.
Placeplanning masterclass: setting the standard for masterplanning Masterplans and masterplanning are formal documents and procedures that planning and development processes require. Placeplanning is the process that brings together the various elements on which successful masterplanning depends. Placeplanning is currently being developed as a new industry standard for assessing the process and quality of masterplans.
Planning for Healthy Communities Conference This one-day conference is aimed at those in planning, urban design and waste management. It should also be of interest to those from the health sector seeking to engage with the planning community to enhance contributions towards improved public health.
Planning law update conference This one-day conference aims to provide a straightforward, practical routemap through the legal minefield so as to assist delegates to find the best solutions for delivering sustainable development whilst avoiding or minimising the risks.
Retail and Town Centres Conference This conference will consider possible future directions for retail policy and explore what these mean in practice for retailers, developers and local authorities.
Sustainable buildings This one day Masterclass is for practitioners who want to understand more about features for sustainable design that can be integrated into new developments. There will be a focus on renewable energy and water consumption. Other topics such as materials and ecology will also be explored during the course.
Urban Design Conference Now in its 10th successful year this conference will provide an introduction and update on recently produced tools, included the updated EP Urban Design Compendium and PPS3 and its supplementary guidance. It will also cover urban design in the LDF context and practice in delivering urban design quality in a range of differing environments.
Urban design in the planning system (Master class) This course highlights the importance of design in the planning process and as a component in the development of sustainable communities.
