As THLS moved into the new century they were conscious that they needed to equip their staff not only with technical skills but also with the professional and employment law knowledge needed in today’s environment. Their aim was to develop a continuous learning culture making more efficient and effective use of their resources in order to ensure adequate return on their assets, survival as an organisation, and making continuous progress towards achieving their long term goals. With the emphasis being on learning rather than training, THLS embarked on an exercise of diagnostics and assessment. We were involved from the start of the project, supporting the client with an analysis of their training needs.

Cochlear recognised the need to keep up-to-date in the health and safety field and to ensure full compliance with the law in this rapidly changing business world. Cochlear therefore approached us to run three courses for its staff:

• An introduction to health and safety
• Manual handling
• DSE and workstation assessment

Frances Green ran all these courses after meeting with the company’s HR Manager to investigate their training needs. As a result of these courses, the company has now established regular health and safety meetings in order to ensure on-going compliance.
